When we talk about pipeline, there are really two very different things mixed together:
Executable pipeline = deals we can realistically close in this quarter or the next since there is a
clear problem we’re solving.
We know the decision maker(s).
The buying process is defined (legal, security, procurement, etc.).
There’s a timeline and a budget.
Next steps are on the calendar, owned, and agreed to by the customer.
Non-executable pipeline = the feel good strategy because it makes the total pipeline number big, but it doesn’t help us make decisions or hit our number.
Early conversations.
“Nice to have” interest with no budget or urgency.
Deals where we don’t know who actually signs.
Opportunities with no defined next step.
